New PROTECT publication!

PROTECT paper #30 is now published, read more about “Sensitivity of Antarctic surface climate to a new spectral snow albedo and radiative transfer scheme in RACMO2.3p3”.

Antarctic surface climate is more sensitive to radiative transfer in snow than you might think! Small changes in snow conditions and albedo in the regional climate model RACMO2 lead to a strong overestimation of melt, locally leading to runoff and a reduced surface mass balance.

Figure showing the melt of a coarse fresh snow and fast snow metamorphism version of RACMO2.3p3 with respect to QuikSCAT estimates between 2000-2009, and fine fresh snow with slow snow metamorphism version of RACMO2.3p3 compared to QuikSCAT
