The article “Historically-based run-time bias corrections substantially improve model projections of 100 years of future climate change” written by Krinner et al., was published on 14 October 2020 in Communications Earth & Environment.
Here are the keys findings:
– This new paper tests and validates a new method to correct biases in climate projections with a “perfect model” (or “pseudo-reality”) approach
– The method is specifically designed to provide consistent present and future boundary conditions for regional climate models
– We show that the bias correction, based on the present climate, remains valid after 100 years of very strong climate change
– Strongly reduced circulation errors at present (see figure top row), but, importantly, also in the future (see figure bottom row)
