After more than four years of great work, PROTECT has officially concluded on 28 February 2025. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to the project’s success, from the researchers, administrators, and collaborators. Your dedication has been essential in achieving the project’s goals, and we are truly thankful for your support. A special thank you to the Early Career Scientists of the project for their exceptional research and for their dedication in supporting the coordination of PROTECT activities.
We are pleased to share that the project’s website has been updated to feature our key outputs, making it easier to access our findings and resources. These outputs will continue to support ongoing efforts in climate science, policy, education, and public engagement.
Key project outputs
The updated website now showcases several major contributions from PROTECT:
- Scientific publications: We are proud to share the research findings that have deepened our understanding of the cryosphere, sea-level rise and its long-term implications. These publications offer insights into the scientific models and methodologies used during the project.
- Policy briefs: The concise policy briefs produced by PROTECT offer clear, actionable recommendations for decision-makers on how to address the challenges posed by sea-level rise. These documents are intended to inform and guide policymakers in creating effective strategies to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
- Sea level projection tool: One of our most important contributions, this tool allows users to explore the future sea-level changes on coastal regions. It’s an essential resource for understanding how rising waters could affect vulnerable communities worldwide. You can access it here: Sea level projection tool.
- Educational resources: To help raise awareness and understanding of sea-level rise, we have developed a suite of engaging materials:
- 4 informative videos: These videos provide a deep dive into the science behind sea-level rise and its global consequences. You can access them here: PROTECT video series: Understanding sea-level rise.
- 3 interactive games: These games offer an engaging way to learn about glaciers, the impacts of sea-level rise, and coastal adaptation challenges, making complex concepts more accessible to all ages. Explore the games here: PROTECT games.
- Webinars: Throughout the project, we held a series of webinars to share our findings and discuss the ongoing challenges and solutions related to sea-level rise. Recordings of these sessions are available on the website for anyone who missed them or wishes to revisit the content.
- Submersion – an art-science exhibition: In collaboration with artists and students from the École Supérieure d’Art et Design (ESAD), we created an innovative exhibition that blends art and science to explore the impacts of sea-level rise. This exhibition has been a unique way to engage the public and inspire action through both visual and scientific storytelling. Find out more here: Submersion
Looking ahead
Although the PROTECT project has officially concluded, the work is far from over. Our findings and resources will continue to be available on the updated website, and we remain committed to advancing research and action on sea-level rise. We also encourage the public to stay connected with us on BlueSky, where we will continue to share updates and new developments in the field.
For more information, visit the updated website and stay in touch through our BlueSky account.
