PROTECT proudly presents Submersion, an art-science exhibition shedding light on the impacts of glacier and ice sheet melting on rising sea levels.
Running from 1 February to 1 March 2025, at Espace Vallès in Saint-Martin d’Hères, Submersion merges cutting-edge scientific research with artistic expression. The exhibition is produced by PROTECT, ESAD Valence, and Alizée De Pin, author and illustrator, as part of a research-creation residency organized by Dominique Cunin, educator, researcher, and developer of augmented reality programs. This multimedia triptych invites audiences to explore glacial environments, envision potential futures shaped by rising seas, and reflect on individual actions influencing ice sheet dynamics.
A Collaborative Creation
Submersion is the result of interdisciplinary workshops involving students and faculty from ESAD Valence’s Graphic Design program. The project, commissioned under PROTECT’s work package dedicated to communication, dissemination, and research output exploitation, showcases the fusion of research findings and creative innovation to foster public awareness and engagement.
Exhibition Highlights
The exhibition combines printed illustrations, augmented reality, and a video diptych portraying two possible futures for a fictional coastal town. This immersive approach bridges the gap between complex scientific data and public understanding, emphasizing the urgent need for collective action in addressing climate change.
Experimenta Art-Science Biennale
Submersion was selected to be part of the Experimenta Art-Science Biennale. This Biennale is an internationally recognized platform at the intersection of art, science, and technology. Held every two years in Grenoble, France, this unique event brings together artists, scientists, researchers, and the public to explore innovative approaches to contemporary challenges and future possibilities.
